A Simple Method Searching for ET, Who is Searching for US (Pt 2)

December 6, 2011 | By

In my last blog: “A Simple Method Searching for ET, Who is Searching for US (Part One), I showed how our planet was a beacon of light to aliens looking for intelligent life on other planets. To get the full gist of the blog, you’ll have to read it, but until then, here is my conclusion.

Since the very first settlement started building camp fires 790 thousands years ago, light has traveled 787 thousand light years through space. True this figure is an absolute based on math and there are many many variables to consider. Depending on atmospheric conditions and the amount of light village campfires could emit, would determine how much light can escape the Earth’s atmosphere reaching space.

I also mentioned in my blog that Part 2 will show which of our neighboring stars could be a part of Earth’s history. Well NASA might have answered that question. December 5th, 2011, NASA issued a press release:

NASA Telescope Confirms Alien Planet in Habitable Zone

[William Harwood (exert from article)] MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. — NASA’s planet-hunting Kepler spacecraft has confirmed the discovery of its first alien world in its host star’s habitable zone — that just-right range of distances that could allow liquid water to exist — and found more than 1,000 new explanet candidates, researchers announced today (Dec. 5).

The new finds bring the Kepler space telescope’s total haul to 2,326 potential planets in its first 16 months of operation. These discoveries, if confirmed, would quadruple the current tally of worlds known to exist beyond our solar system, which recently topped 700.

The potentially habitable alien world, a first for Kepler, orbits a star very much like our own sun. The discovery brings scientists one step closer to finding a planet like our own — one which could conceivably harbor life, scientists said.

“We’re getting closer and closer to discovering the so-called ‘Goldilocks planet,'” Pete Worden, director of NASA’s Ames Research Center in Moffett Field, Calif., said during a press conference today.

The new found planet in the habitable zone is called Kepler-22b. It is located about 600 light-years away, orbiting a sun-like star.

Kepler-22b’s radius is 2.4 times that of Earth, and the two planets have roughly similar temperatures. If the greenhouse effect operates there similarly to how it does on Earth, the average surface temperature on Kepler-22b would be 72 degrees Fahrenheit (22 degrees Celsius).

Kepler-22b is 600 light-years away, and if the Earth (based on part 1 of this blog) has emitted light which has traveled 787 thousand light years so far, then this new planet ( if intelligent life exists there ) would have had plenty of time to see us with the proper technology.

Other intelligent life which may have seen us is could be from the star system, Zeta Reticuli.

Star map depicted by Marjorie Fish

On September 19th, 1961, Betty and Barney Hill claimed to have been abducted by aliens while driving back to Portsmouth, New Hampshire, from vacationing in Niagara Falls and Montreal, Quebec, Canada. Later under hypnosis, Betty talked about her abduction experience in which she was shown by one of the aliens, a map of their star system.

In 1968 an elementary school teacher and amateur astronomer Marjorie Fish of Oak Harbor, Ohio, had read a book about the Betty and Barney Hill incident and based on Betty Hill’s testimony from her hypnosis, Marjorie was able to figured out which star system Betty had seen. The star system in which the alien planet orbits is Zeta Reticuli.

Wikipedia:  Zeta Reticuli (ζ Ret, ζ Reticuli) is a binary star system located about 39 light-years away from Earth. It is located in the constellation Reticulum, and is visible to the unaided eye in very dark skies. Because of the southerly location of the system, it is not visible north of the tropics.

Another planet in which its occupants could have visited Earth in our history is near the star Sirius.

A West African tribe known as the Dogon tribe, believe that the starting point of their creation is from a star that revolves around Sirius and is known as the “Digitaria star”. Their ancestors, who were around before the 15th century, say the star is small and contains all the building blocks to start creation as we known it. The Sirius star is visible to the human eye, however its neighboring one is not. It wasn’t until 1862 that astronomers discovered the second star, a dwarf sun. They named it Sirius B and it’s sister star, Sirius A. Sirius B is 8.6 light-years away from Earth, which is just a hop skip and a jump for visitors which have the technology for space travel.

Now we have at least three examples of locations in which intelligent life could have spotted light emitting from our planet which sparked their curiosity. If they were just a few hundred years more advanced than we are, then they definitely could have solved the problem of interstellar travel in which we are working on now.

Just within the last 70 years of our technology advancements, we went from crystal diodes to vacuum tubes, to micro chips. Our mathematical tools have rapidly advanced from slide rules to calculators, now to computers. Our everyday communications have evolved from wired communication to satellite driven micro wave telecommunications. Before the end of this year, we will be reading about new advancements in technology which will eventually affect our daily life. If we are able to advance this rapidly within the last 70 years, then where will we be 70 years from now? Venturing to stars like Sirius B perhaps?
